These drums are the real deal. I play a variety of musical genres, Rock, R&B, Funk, Top 40, Classic Rock- you name it. This kit transcends all of them and does so with limitless tonal articulation I've not seen in any other drums made today. Period. Tama has really upped the stakes with these beauties. Sure, they are expensive, but well worth the extra bucks. You could spend way more on another kit but, to me, your wasting your money. They sound great, tune up easy and pack a punch because of the denser characteristics of Bubinga or African Rosewood. Look no further than the Tama Bubinga for the ultimate kit. You won't be disappointed.

I just got this kit yesterday. I've played on it before my purchase. I fell in love with the dark, deep tone the toms produce. The bass drum is punchy and loud. I changed the heads from Evans G1s to Evans EC2s. Before this kit I had a Pacific FXR Birch, this Tama blows any drum set out of the water. I picked this kit over a DW
TAMA is on a quest to bring drummers a new sound in snare drums.
A solid sound that features full projection with rich resonant tone, combined with fine, crisp snare response. In order to achieve this new sound, we have developed a concept that incorporates entirely new hoop, lug, and strainer designs, married to a variety of uniquely constructed drum shells.
STARPHONIC snare drums are the result of 3 years of detailed research and precise testing.
A symphony of sound springs to life from each STARPHONIC drum as a result of their combination of unique special features: naturally resonant shell materials, Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snare wires, and a specially Grooved Hoop for a totally sharp but open sound.
With so many years of drum building history, only TAMA could achieve such a new radical design and sound.
Noteworthy Advancements of Tama Starphonic Snare Drums:
The "Grooved Hoop" is a totally new development in drum hoop design and is exclusive to out Tama Starphonic snare drums.
The shape of the "Bearing Edge" is one of the most important factors which affect drum sound. This is why Tama has worked so extensively on achieving the most functional shape for the drum head and edge.
Starphonic' new strainer uses a "Linear-Drive" system, which we designed to give greater control of the lever adjustments arm and more precise control of the strainer's deployment motion.
Tama Starphonic "Detachable Strainer Butt" allows you to change your snare side head, but keeps the snare wire tension in its original state.
Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snares provide a more crisp, sensitive and brighter sound.
Freedom Lug & Claw Hook. By loosening the tension rods, you can tilt the claw hooks backwards and away from the grooved hoop. This quick release system offers simple, speedy replacement of drum heads without having to take all of the tension rods out of the lugs.
Starphonic's claw hooks have a rubber block inside to prevent the tension bolts from loosening during playing.
Ratchet style Snappy Tension Adjuster. To prevent the snare from loosening Tama incorporated a ratchet system on the strainers tension adjustment mechanism
